What: Richard Serra Drawing, A Retrospective
Where: SFMOMA
When: October 15 thru January 16, 2012
This first-ever retrospective of drawings by Richard Serra is a chance to see his ideas in a completely different medium, creating an entirely different perspective.
Using black paintsticks to build stark, densely layered two-dimensional forms—they evoke a terrific sense of mass and gravity not unlike his intense and weighty three-dimensional sculptures. The exhibition traces Serra’s evolution from the 70s on and also features some of his earliest sculptures in lead, rubber, and fiberglass.
