Before she was famous: Maui was discovered near the boardwalk of Venice Beach, CA. Her owner, an older woman that called the beach her home, was trying to find homes for her and her brothers and sisters.
A well-intentioned teenage girl picked out Maui and took her home but unfortunately, she couldn’t keep her. So her friend, my co-worker at the time, offered to house Maui for a couple days until a new home was found. A week passed and no one adopted her. Before taking her to a shelter, she sent out a desperate inter-office email with Maui’s picture attached. Immediately after work I picked up Maui and brought her to her new, and permanent home.

…25% of adoptable dogs in animal shelters are purebred.
…adopting a dog or cat from the Humane Society, ASPCA—any rescue group—can save their life.
…and, being a pet owner can add years to your life too.

CB2 -

Thank you for posting and sharing Maui's story on the blog. My husband and I are strong proponents of adopting from local shelters and rescuing animals. In fact, we rescued our dog Jada from a local shelter called Wagging Hearts in Chicago. I wanted to respond to the blog because my mom first saw Maui in the CB2 catalogue and couldn't believe her eyes. Our dog Jada is the exact replica of Maui! Everything is the same from the underbite to the coloring. She is often mistaken or recognized as Falkor from The Neverending Story too! We were wondering if you would be interested in featuring Jada - maybe even along with Maui, in your next catalogue. While she has never done any "modeling" we think it would be perfect to share her story, just like Maui's, in order to spread awareness about adopting from shelters. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi to Maui! I would hazard to say that my parents adopted Maui's brother! If you click on my link it goes to an Instagram feed with loads of pictures of Rusty. Could it be?

Hey Lexi!
Thank you so much for your comment and for offering Jada's modeling services!
Unfortunately we're unable to accept due to liability issues on set.
We hope you can understand -- and we look forward to seeing Jada's close-ups!
