guerrilla truck show: chicago

What: The 8th Annual Guerrilla Truck Show
When: Tuesday, June 12 from 5:30-9:30pm
Where: West Fulton Market

guerrilla: a member of a small independent group of product, furniture designers and artisans that band together to provide an innovative venue to vent their ideas and creativity.

Local, independent artists and designers will be taking to West Fulton Market once again.

Every summer during Neocon, Morlen Sinoway Atelier hosts the show as a platform for creatives to showcase their work in a very temporary gallery—within the back of a truck.

What started with 13 U-Haul trucks, has expanded to both temporary and permanent indoor spaces—everything from furniture and lighting to metal and theatre fabrications should be un-expected.

photo by: 20 Letters What: adfilmfest—Architecture and Design Filmfest
When: April 12 thru 16
Where: The Music Box Theater, Chicago

During adfilmfest, a selection of feature length films, documentaries and shorts will be shown during the week. Accompanying them, filmmakers, architects, designers and other industry leaders are scheduled to discuss design processes, architecture in film, and brilliant designs we see and use every day.

In Pool Party, catch the doubly surprising story of a swimming pool—the size of a football field in New York City built during the Depression and abandoned for almost 25 years—that’s become the most significant indie music venue since CBGB’s.

And in Detroit Wild City, locals hypothesize the future of Detroit—and ultimately all urban ‘settlements’.

33 Films will fill the roster—ranging in length from three minutes to 93 minutes—and each has been curated into 15 programs. Tickets will be sold by the program with each program including 1-4 films of varying lengths and running approximately 90 minutes.

28th annual christmas sing-along: chicago

photo by: 20 LettersWhat: The 28th Annual Christmas Show
Where: Music Box Theatre, Chicago
When: Friday, December 16-24, 2011

For the past 27 years, holiday revelers have come to the vintage Music Box theater to watch two classic films of the season—‘White Christmas’ and ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’.

What makes the evening a holiday tradition is when Santa Claus, accompanied by the theater organist, leads a sing-along of the most cherished Christmas carols before the screening of each film.

In case you never knew the words to Auld Lang Syne, just follow the “bouncing ball” as the lyrics are projected onto the screen and enjoy!

a klingon christmas carol: chicago

photo by: Scott PakudaitisWhat: A Klingon Christmas Carol
When: now thru December 31
Where: The Greenhouse Theater Center

The timeless story of Scrooge being visited by three ghosts in the hours before Christmas morning is told as only Dr. Spock could—in klingon*.

Needless to say, it’s equal parts theater, performance art—and a new holiday tradition.
